The cost of dying

"Families cannot imagine there could be anything worse than their loved one dying," says Dr. Ira Byock, director of palliative medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. "But in fact, there are things worse. Most generally, it's having someone you love die badly." Byock and Dr. Elliot Fisher of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice were featured on CBS-TV's "60 Minutes" program Sunday night, talking with reporter Steve Kroft about the cost of dying in America.
